Description
Gold coloured circular laurel wreath over a bowtie on a stand mounted on a small marble base. Text on white disc encompassed by the wreath reads "KOO WEE RUP / POTATO FESTIVAL". In the centre is a gold depiction of a stylised potato sack with a crown with the text "KING SPUD".
The first Koo Wee Rup Potato Festival took place on 17 February 1973. It included a float parade of thirty floats from businesses and community groups and a wide range of activities, competitions, exhibits and stalls. The festival was initiated as a fundraiser for the Westernport Memorial Hospital. It continued to be an annual event until 2000, when dwindling support and uncertainty over the future of the hospital caused the festival to be discontinued.
