Description
Composite wooden plaque, with top of plaque shaped to resemble northern coast of Australia. Brass plate in the shape of Australia attached with plastic City of Casey medallion surrounded by gold plastic stars attached to the lower right corner of the plate. Inscribed rectangular brass plate attached to the bottom of the plaque with Greek text, and date 1998. Label attached on reverse "Presented to mark the occasion of the Civic Visit to/ Ioannina/ by the City of Casey, Melbourne, Australia/ November, 1998". This text is a direct translation of the Greek on the recto.

The City of Casey established a sister city relationship with the Greek city of Ioannina in 1998, the year this object originates. Ioannina is a large regional city located in north western Greece, with strong links to the Byzantine period. The friendship link between Casey and Ioannina lapsed in 2008 due to the difficulties in maintaining an active link with this city.
