Description
Loving-cup trophy with plain brass cup and two handles on a black bevilled plastic base and riser. Black plate with gold inscribed lettering on the front of the base states "BERWICK CITY/ HIGHLAND GATHERING/ 1992/ LITTLE ATHLETICS".
The Berwick Highland Gathering was a beloved annual event in Berwick spanning from 1986-2012. The event was often supported by the City of Casey and this link may be why the trophy has made its way to our collection. Features of the day included pipe band competitions, weight-lifting games, caber tossing, Scottish Highland and country dancing, and clan displays. There was also Black Scottish Terriers and West Highland Whites dog breed in competition. Berwick Little Athletics Club formed in its current iteration in 1985 and the trophy is evidence of their presence at the Highland Gathering event in 1992.
