Description
This oil on canvas painting by artist Wendy Lindrea shows the historic Berwick homestead, ‘The Springs’ as it may have looked when first constructed. The artist has depicted the homestead in an impressionistic style, situated within a pastoral setting and in the bright, warm light of the low sun.

The historic Berwick homestead, ‘The Springs’, was built around 1904 by Edwin Greaves. The property had originally been part of the Cheese Factory property, which was subdivided and sold in 1903. The property also included a blacksmith shed, stables and cool store built around the same time as the homestead.

Wendy Lindrea is a contemporary artist who for a period lived in Berwick and was a member of the Berwick Artists’ Society. She frequently sketched and painted historic buildings and sites in the area. Her interest in painting The Springs homestead in the early 1990s led her to meet the owner at the time, Jeffery Spencer, who happily supported her wish to visit and paint the property.
